Hydrogeology

Hydrogeology is the area of geology that deals with the distribution and movement of groundwater in the soil and rocks of the Earth’s crust. The terms groundwater hydrology, geohydrology, and hydrogeology are often used interchangeably.

Cone of Depression – Is the depression in the water table or potentiometric surface cause by pumping from a well.

Radius of Influence – Is the radial distance to points where hydraulic head is noticeably affected by a pumping well.

Hydraulic Head (h) – Is the the elevation in a well in reference to a specific datum; the mechanical energy per unit weight of water [L].
